Amwaj resident pet database

Importance of Pet registration

Losing our fur babies can be a traumatic and even tragic event for both the owner and the pet. We all regularly see the cries for help looking for a lost dog and questions if anyone knows who's cat this is.... Social media is covered with pictures of lost and found pets.

To be able to reunite lost pets quickly Amwaj management now urges the residents to register their pet in the Pet database. It is free and the registration only takes minutes to complete. Pets that do not already have a microchip will receive an RFID tag free of charge.

While Micro chipping is a must, registration is even more important. Pretty pets are often stolen for reproduction or sale, if they are lucky, they are thrown back on the road and found by a good Samaritan but without registration it would still be very hard to find the owner and your pet may end up at the shelter and have a new family before you find out. It is essential that all pets and their owners on Amwaj and by extention Bahrain, are registered in the Pet database at www.mycuddlebuddy.com/petregister.

Once your pets are official Amwaj Residents they are also no longer at risk of being deported off the island by the municipality. When a pet is found and scanned, all that is revealed by the pet register to the security people of Amwaj is your email and or phone number, enough to let you know your pet is safe.

What is a microchip or an RFID tag?

An RFID tag is a little tag that can be attached to the collar of your pet, it has a unique number that is linked in the database and can be scanned by Amwaj security. They are non-invasive, small and water proof but may get lost.

Microchips are implantable computer chips encoded with a unique 15-digit number, when traveling they are used similar to a human passport but usually chips are for life. They are no bigger than a grain of rice, are placed under the skin and the procedure is not a lot different from a routine vaccine, they do not hurt and will not harm the pets health. The chip can be scanned by Amwaj security, some pet sitters on Amwaj, at veterinary clinics and by some pet relocators and animal shelters. If your pet is scanned and has a chip, the reader should beep and reveal the number instantly.

Great! Now your pet has an ID! But it is not enough, up to very recently there was almost no way to link a pet with an owner. Some veterinaries keep an excel list but only for those chips they have inserted, 1 pet relocator keeps a database but only for those that were imported and exported by them. When a dog is found on the beach for example there was no way to bring the dog home again without raising an alarm on social media, calling a few if not all veterinaries and being lucky to have a match. There is also the issue with stray or dumped pets wandering around Amwaj, just scanning them we cannot decide if a cat is stray, lost or dumped and if it needs to be brought home or elsewhere.
